Supply Chain at Scania

Our Regional Material Control Centre in Zwolle coordinates the material and transport flows from our suppliers to all Scania production sites. Our intercontinental logistical network ensures that the parts are delivered in time at our production units to assemble the trucks.

Department Supply Chain Engineering
The Supply Chain Engineering department works continuously to optimize and improve the supply chain. Together with a team of 16 engineers, you take care of optimal implementation of the supplier and transport network. You will do this in cooperation with our Swedish, Chinese and Brazilian colleagues.

The assignment
For Scania reduction of CO2 emissions is one of our most important targets for the coming years. We have already reduced a significant part of the emissions in our European transport network. The next step is to achieve further reductions in our overseas flows. Inbound goods from our global suppliers outside Europe are received and stored in our logistical hub in Hasselt (NL) and from there distributed to our European production units. The other way around goods from our European suppliers are consolidated in Hasselt and exported to our production unit in Brazil. Most of the containers, inbound and outbound in Hasselt are shipped with a diesel barge to/from the port of Rotterdam & Antwerp, a smaller part of the volume is shipped via road.

We have the ambition to have a climate-neutral transport flow between the deep sea ports of Antwerp/Rotterdam and our logistical hub in Hasselt. There are multiple options to reduce emissions on this transport flow, for example; a barge on sustainable fuels, an electric barge, a hydrogen barge, electric road transport, or train transport.

The goal of this assignment is to investigate what the most suitable solution is for Scania based on emissions reduction and cost.
